Macomb splits its search into free and paid tiers: looking up the index by grantor or grantee name costs nothing and will tell you what was recorded and when, while viewing or downloading the document image itself is $6. If you only need to confirm that something was recorded, the free index answers it. Public terminals in the register of deeds search area are free to use. Recording is county work, but the fee is set by state statute and is the same in every Michigan county — a flat $30 per document since October 2016, whatever the page count.

School district assignment in Macomb County follows the property address rather than the municipal boundary, and a single community is often served by more than one district. The lookup on any community page checks a specific address against the actual district boundaries.
